Neat! Thanks and yeah we have a good amount of international kids, a ton come from places like Korea Taiwan or farther places so as long as you and your family are okay with it and can swing it, its not impossible. Good luck with college and stuff tho!

Put the costume, wig, and makeup on all together for the first time! I think next time i’ll use more blush, but for the most part i’m happy with it. I didn’t do much, it’s just foundation and a bit of bronze eyeliner - I wanted to keep it as natural looking as possible!

I shall venture outside and get some ~real~ (non mirror) shots of this on Saturday! I’m really excited.

These would totally be the people in real life that compliment your work and then offer you 2 bucks for it or ask for free drawings in exchange for “exposure and because hey they actually like it”. Nothing quite like implying someone likes your drawing, but they don’t value it as work or what you have to say about it (even if what you’re saying is trivial).

And in a very tumblr specific way, imo like removing comments feeds that gross repost no-need-for-credit culture blogs that exist? By disassociating the artist you can sort of inadvertently reaffirm that they don’t matter because “you should be happy they like your work at all” sentiment, etc.

I really don’t need that kind of condescending approval.

The reblog portion of Tumblr is a double-edged sword because it really depends on the motivations of the reblogger. It’s a ridiculous way to get exposure. Unlike a gallery of “favorites” on other art sites, your work gets affronted to a stranger to judge. To varying degrees, reblogging on Tumblr can be a way to use someone else’s labor to assert your own individuality. That’s not horrible. I do it. I like showing people what I like. But I also like giving the artists I like exposure too and sometimes I even write about them and why they’re so great. I think a lot of artists are aware of how unsticky their identity is to their art on Tumblr which is why it’s common practice to just write anything under a drawing even if they don’t even have a comment. Like a period or yah, whatever, fuck etc etc

That’s been the conundrum of social networking for a long time; media is very portable so you can decorate yourself in your tastes in a way that really gives zero benefit to the creators, unlike a band t-shirt for example. There’s nothing wrong in being proud of your scrapbook-y blog but there is a lot wrong with taking that feeling to the extreme and feeling that what the work says about you is more important than the person who put the labor and personality into it. It’s not to say your likes and dislikes aren’t important. They’re important. What the artist feels is important. Don’t make a hierarchy out of it though.

It doesn’t keep me up at night but it is dehumanizing to have it happen to me. Also sometimes I write stuff about the artist under the other people’s art that I post and people reblog and erase it and that hurts too (weirdly enough, more than when it happens to my own art).

This is perhaps a more biting thing I’m willing to admit but I guess I’m not at all impressed by people who think their “great taste” is a sole reason I should respect them….

Hmm yeah, I guess for me its more like, I find it so confusing/uncomfortable because I don’t usually disassociate the things I like from the people that made them? They’re equally interesting to me. I like seeing what someone has to say about something they made even if it’s a corny-ass story about what prompted it or how the process frustrated them.

And it’s not like you have to like every artist whose work you like on a personal level - something ive seen a lot, you do not have to its not required people shouldn’t feel bad when they don’t - but I still think that its interesting. So it confuses me, even when it’s something someone else said, but its still revelant to the person that made it, when people intentionally remove even the smallest comment because its deemed “unnecessary”.

Like if the artist is on a 5 paragraph rampage about the consistency of their dinner whatever remove it? But like unnecessary can range from anything that isnt strictly ‘a title’ to …. the above depending on whos juding it? And personally its more of a “come on really” feeling when I see it on my stuff.
